Enrolling at YPS
Enrolment forms must be completed for all students enrolling for the first time in the Victorian government school system. Most commonly, this would occur at Foundation (Prep) enrolment.
If you are interested in enrolling at our school, please request an Enrolment Form from our school office at yarram.ps@education.vic.gov.au or by ringing at 5182 5688.
Our school follows the Department of Education’s Placement Policy for the enrolment, placement, and transfer of students.
Students who live within the school zone are guaranteed a place at our school. To find out whether you live in zone, visit findmyschool.vic.gov.au
Schools must provide new families with the department’s privacy collection notice and keep all information securely. Enrolment forms and supporting documentation must be managed in accordance with the department’s privacy policies and Victorian privacy laws. Refer to Privacy and Information Sharing for further information.
When processing enrolment forms, schools must sight and retain a copy of the following supporting documentation:
- date of birth

Starting School for the First Time
Starting school is an exciting time for children, parents and carers. We want to help make the enrolment process as easy as possible for you. Each year, the department releases the Foundation (Prep) Enrolment Information Pack for Parents/Carers, with information packs available from the beginning of Term 2 for students commencing foundation/prep the following year. These information packs, and other important information, can be found on the Enrolling in Foundation (Prep) page of the Victorian Government website.
The Department of Education has a statewide Foundation (Prep) enrolment timeline.
The timeline advises families when and how to enrol their child into Foundation (Prep) at a Victorian government primary school, including Yarram Primary School. You can find information and resources about the enrolment timeline at: Enrolling in Foundation (Prep).
In May each year a notice is handed out at the local kindergartens informing the community that tours and open days will be held at the local schools and that enrolments can then be made at your preferred school.
Your child needs to have turned 5 before the 30th April before they can legally start school. Please consider your child's overall development - physical, emotional, social and intellectual - when deciding if they are ready for school. Schooling is compulsory for children who have turned 6 years old.

Enrolling a Student from Another School
An enrolment form is not required for students transferring between Victorian government schools. Refer to: Student transfers between schools.
If you have a student transferring to YPS from another school we request that you inform the school that your child is currently attending that you are planning to transfer your child to Yarram Primary School No 693. This will enable the school to put together the child's student file and possible work samples.
